In 1998, Schweitzer-Mauduit acquired Companhia Industrial de Papel Pirahy (now Schweitzer-Mauduit do Brasil)
from Souza Cruz, the largest cigarette producer in South America. The mill contains four operating paper
machines and a coater which are used in the production of cigarette and other fine papers, including printing and writing paper
and coated papers used primarily in cigarette packaging applications. Schweitzer-Mauduit do Brasil is the largest
supplier of tobacco-related papers in South America.
