Ancram Mill

The mill opened in 1743 as an iron works, the first in the colony of New York and operated until 1845 when it closed. The mill re-opened as a paper mill in 1854. Schweitzer-Mauduit purchased the mill in 1955 and began the manufacturing of reconstituted tobacco products on one of its two paper machines. The second machine began operating in 1967 and was rebuilt in 1977 to manufacture porous plug wrap papers. Today the mill is the heart of Schweitzer-Mauduit’s reconstituted tobacco wrapper and binder business and a key producer of porous plug wrap papers.
